Data Centre External Works

Overview

To improve safety and productivity during the closing stages of a data centre façade program, AEG introduced mast climbers for the remaining external works. The transition was planned to align with the existing cladding sequence and maintain momentum on site. With stable platforms and smooth vertical travel, mast climbers reduced manual handling and downtime from frequent reconfiguration. The result was stronger program control and consistent installation quality.

The Challenge

External façade works on a data centre required reliable access that supported safe installation practices while maintaining schedule control. Traditional methods were becoming inefficient as the scope progressed, increasing pressure to regain time without compromising safety. The project needed stable work platforms for cladding and external works, fewer manual handling tasks and a more predictable production rate across elevations. The priority was safe execution, clear work front management and an access method that restored confidence in the program.

The Approach

AEG reviewed the active workfront and recommended mast climbers for the remaining façade scope based on access suitability, safety controls and expected productivity gains. We staged the transition to avoid disruption, providing supervision and integrating the system into the established façade sequence. The mast climbers created a consistent working deck across heights, helping crews maintain safe practices while minimising lost time associated with ongoing set-up and repositioning. This supported cleaner coordination with adjacent trades and improved day-to-day planning.

The Result

With mast climbers in place, crews had a stable platform and controlled travel across the façade, reducing manual handling and stoppages linked to repeated reconfiguration. The access strategy improved productivity and helped regain program control, while maintaining quality and compliance through the final delivery phase.
